Florian Grunow – Winner of the Best Congress Paper
This year the title of best congress speaker at conhIT was won by Florian Grunow (ERNW Enno Rey Netzwerke GmbH) with his paper ‘IT security risks in hospitals – identification and prevention’ (download) . In his remarks he reported on the threats faced by critical infrastructures and the preventative measure that could be taken to deal with such situations.
Florian Grunow presented his prizewinning paper on 27 April 2017 during Session 17, ‘IT security in hospitals – the threat, risks and updates on the IT Security Law”.
The team headed by Florian Grunow at ERNW GmbH in Heidelberg is responsible for security assessments and internal training. He studied medical informatics and software engineering and has been active in the field of application security for many years. His research work focuses on the security of medical equipment. He regularly presents findings from his research projects at international conferences.
Session 8 Acclaimed as the Best Congress Session
The prize for Best Congress Session 2017 was awarded to Session 8 ‘Improving the Efficiency of Processes – Added Value through IT', chaired by Prof. Dr. Andreas Goldschmidt (German Association for Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology) and Dr. Nikolai von Schroeders (German Association of Medical Financial Controllers). The session investigated what strategies offer the best prospects of success, how IT can be used to support the necessary changes, and what approaches are suitable for achieving the best possible process structure prior to the implementation of IT.
The increasing complexity of the processes, the high levels of efficiency that are required and, not least, patients’ expectations of trouble-free procedures are all major challenges for hospitals, according to the speakers. The need for process-driven working methods is being recognised by an increasing number of clinics. The necessary cultural changes that this implies will require increased IT support at all stages, from planning through to implementation and the monitoring of process reliability in day-to-day operations. At the present time the relevant tools and projects are non-homogenous and liable to confuse users.

Even More Prizewinners! eHealth-Slam and AppCircus
A comprehensive product description comprising poetry, video consultations in theatrical form, comedy and non-fiction stories about online consultations – at the eHealth-Slam on 26 April 2017 participants again demonstrated that the subject of Healthcare IT can certainly be entertaining. Kristina Hoffmann of Grundig Business Systems GmbH was the winner with her paper: ‘In the beginning was the word – reasons for switching to digital dictation and voice recognition by Grundig Business Systems'. She presented the advantages of the Digta 7, such as its high degree of usability, voice recognition and systems compatibility with HIS in the form of a poem.
The winning app at this year’s AppCircus, held on 26 April 2017 at the mobile health ZONE, goes by the name of FibriCheck . It uses the flashlight that is built into smartphones to analyse heart rates and check that they are functioning correctly. “The more blood that is pulsing through a fingertip, the more light is absorbed, and this can be measured using a smartphone”, explained Lars Grieten, CEO of this Belgian startup. Auricular fibrillation was being detected with light rays 50 years ago. Now there is an app for recording and diagnosing cardiac arrhythmia. “FibriCheck is a certified medical device that can only be sold on prescription”, explained Lars Grieten, who has been developing this app since 2014.
Workshop at conhIT: The ePA (Electronic Patient File) Is Coming!
The main players joined in a workshop at conhIT 2017 featuring the differing ideas about implementing the Electronic Patient File in the healthcare process.
“The ePA (Electronic Patient File) is coming! Is the German health care system ready for it?” This initial question was debated by the participants in the eponymous workshop, held on 26 April 2017 at conhIT 2017.
In response to a joint invitation by the German Association of Healthcare IT Vendors – bvitg e.V. and the eHealth rapporteur of the SPD in the Bundestag (lower house), Dirk Heidenblut, the representatives of science, industry, service providers and funders presented their ideas about the deployment of the electronic patient files, known in German by the acronyms ePA and ePF.
